LADMS Case Studies
Section 136
Our case studies are proof that through collaborative working we can achieve the best possible health outcomes for patients.
Section 136
Section 136 (S136) is an emergency power where in extraordinary situations a police constable can remove or detain a person at or to a designated place of safety, should the individual appear to be suffering from a mental health condition and requires immediate care or control. This action is taken if the officer believes it necessary for the person's welfare or the protection of others. Once at the place of safety, the individual will undergo a mental health assessment and appropriate arrangements are made for their ongoing care.
In 2014, LADMS was awarded the contract to deliver the Section 136 Suite & Place of Safety service on behalf of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT). This critical service was operated by our team of trusted psychiatrists and Section 12-approved GPs, who provided on-call support 24/7/365 days a year.
LADMS played a key role in supporting the Mental Health Suite in Lincoln by implementing and maintaining an emergency on-call rota to respond promptly to urgent situations. When a patient required support, our clinicians were called to the site to conduct assessments and provide recommendations or decisions on the necessary next steps for care and support.
This vital service was successfully delivered until the contract was decommissioned in 2024.
